We just returned from our Halong Bay cruise and it was an awesome experience (minus the four hour drive that took us to get there.) Once we arrived, everything was quite enjoyable. Our cabins were charming, the food was delicious, and the views were spectacular.
As soon as we boarded on deck, the staff immediately fed us. It was like they knew I was coming. Later that evening, we had happy hour followed by a Vietnamese cooking class. My mom was drunk after half a glass of Hanoi beer which gave her the (liquid) courage to go up and demonstrate to the class on how to make a spring roll. Go, ma! By the end of the class, people were calling her Mama. I felt like a proud parent.
The next day, I did a little Tai Chi on the deck, went on a cave excursion, then topped the trip by seeing our boat sideswipe another boat at the marina. It was pretty epic. Pictures and a video on that to follow.
Tonight is our last night in Hanoi and we’re going to spend it in a karaoke bar with our new friends from the cruise. I’m going to have to cap mom off to 1/4 of a beer, otherwise, I just might see her on that karaoke stage.
Next stop, Vientiane!
